President Bola Tinubu has authorized the placement of Ms. Halima Shehu, National Coordinator and CEO of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), on temporary leave pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations of financial misconduct.
This decision comes three months after Ms. Shehu’s confirmation for the position by the Senate. Dr. Akindele Egbuwalo, the National N-POWER Programme Manager, will assume the role of acting CEO during the investigation period.
It is important to note that Ms. Shehu has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing at this time. The investigation will aim to determine the legitimacy of the allegations and, if substantiated, take appropriate action.
The NSIPA plays a crucial role in managing the implementation of several impactful social programs, including N-Power, Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT), and Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP). Ensuring the agency’s effectiveness and integrity is paramount.
Therefore, this temporary leave allows for a thorough investigation without disruption to the agency’s ongoing operations. Nigerians are encouraged to await the investigation’s findings before forming definitive conclusions.
