NATIONAL: Tinubu Declares National Emergency on Food Security

President Bola Tinubu has declared a national emergency on food security, calling for the expansion of irrigation infrastructure and inclusive water resource management. He made this known during the 6th African Regional Conference on Irrigation and Drainage held in Abuja.
Represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the President stressed the urgency of adopting innovative strategies to resolve Africa’s irrigation and water management challenges.
The Minister of Water Resources, Professor Joseph Utsev, highlighted the achievements of the TRIMING project, while announcing its successor, SPIN, which aims to further enhance irrigation systems with support from the World Bank.
Stakeholders at the conference — including Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and international experts — emphasized the need for climate adaptation, professional water management, and inclusive innovation.
