The Federal Government has appealed to the United Nations to help secure a $10 billion long-term humanitarian funding package aimed at addressing Nigeria’s deepening humanitarian crises, particularly those affecting internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, made this known during a roundtable discussion in Abuja. He stated that existing donor grants were no longer sufficient to sustain humanitarian operations, hence the need to explore capital markets for sustainable funding mechanisms at a 4% interest rate.
Bagudu said the government’s Renewed Hope Ward-Based Development Plan and SOLID Initiative are designed to drive inclusive economic growth and empower displaced persons across Nigeria’s 8,809 wards.
In response, UN Resident Coordinator Mohammed Fall commended Nigeria’s proactive stance in addressing displacement challenges and pledged continued support for durable and community-driven solutions.
If actualized, the funding will bolster national capacity to manage humanitarian needs, including food security, education, health, and resettlement of displaced populations.
