FG Approves N4bn Conditional Cash Transfer for Vulnerable Households

The Federal Government has approved N4 billion for a conditional cash transfer program aimed at supporting vulnerable households across Nigeria. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the country’s deepening humanitarian crisis.

According to Professor Nentawe Yilwada, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the program will target at least 10 million displaced households, primarily focusing on the most vulnerable members of society. The cash transfer is expected to commence in February and continue through April, with the goal of alleviating the immediate needs of families affected by displacement

 

Key Highlights of the Program:

 

Target Beneficiaries: At least 10 million displaced households, with a focus on vulnerable members such as women, especially widows, pregnant women, and those with disabilities.

– Cash Transfer Amount: N4 billion has been approved for the program.

Duration: The program will commence in February and continue through April.

-Additional Support: The government has also allocated N2 billion for interest-free loans to farmers in rural communities, aimed at boosting food production and self-sufficiency.

 

The National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO) will be responsible for implementing the program, which is part of the government’s broader strategy to address poverty and provide relief to those in urgent need .
