Written by on August 24, 2026

President Bola Tinubu will chair a high-level summit on critical minerals in New York on September 21st 2026, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

As Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG), he will lead the Third High-Level Roundtable themed “From Resources to Wealth: Continental Cooperation for Mineral Value Addition.

The meeting aims to end Africa’s long-standing pattern of exporting raw minerals (such as lithium, copper, cobalt, graphite, manganese and rare earths) and instead promote local processing, manufacturing and integrated value chains so the continent captures more economic value.

Leaders are expected to unveil a Continental Integration and Economic Assurance Declaration and a related finance window to mobilise investment for processing, infrastructure and technology.

The effort builds on earlier initiatives and aligns with Nigeria’s push for greater local value addition in the solid minerals sector.
