LIRS shuts 34 companies over N356.12m tax debts

Written by on November 1, 2023

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has shut down 34 corporate organizations and 23 hotels, restaurants, and event facilities due to non-remittance of consumption taxes by hospitality sector operators to the Lagos State Government. The closures were made during a state-wide tax law enforcement exercise conducted by the Service in Lagos. The tax liabilities of these companies and hotels amounted to more than N356.12m, causing the State Government loss of revenue. The LIRS has previously reduced enforcement activities to promote voluntary compliance by taxpayers.
