Outraged by the Christmas Eve massacre in Plateau State, the Northern Caucus of the House of Representatives has demanded a comprehensive investigation into the killings. Over 150 lives were lost as assailants stormed communities, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake.
In a strongly worded statement signed by their Chairman, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the Northern Caucus vehemently condemned the violence. They emphasized that only a meticulous fact-finding mission, coupled with unwavering commitment to punishing all involved, can pave the way for lasting peace in Plateau.
“The heinous attacks on Christmas Eve,” the statement declared, “have plunged Plateau into yet another cycle of senseless bloodshed. This ongoing saga of reprisals and attacks, particularly between farming communities and pastoralists, has tragically become a recurring nightmare for the state.”
The caucus highlighted the urgency of breaking this cycle of violence. They stressed that justice, delivered swiftly and impartially, is crucial to deterring future atrocities and fostering reconciliation. Additionally, they urged authorities to address the underlying causes of these conflicts, including resource scarcity and historical grievances.
By demanding a thorough investigation and calling for a focus on root causes, the Northern Caucus takes a critical step towards ending the bloodshed in Plateau State. Their actions underscore the need for a multifaceted approach to address the complex challenges fueling these conflicts and ultimately restoring peace to the region.
