In a recent interview, the singer made it clear that he’s not bothered by any tags thrown at his work, as long as his fans are connecting with it. “I just make my music how I want to make my music,” he stated. “I try as much as possible to stay away from titles and everything the world is trying to put on you.”
He further emphasized his respect for fans’ opinions, saying, “I would never argue with that. If that’s how they enjoy it, that’s how they enjoy it.”
Omah Lay’s music often delves into themes of love, heartbreak, and introspection, which might explain the “Afro-depression” association. However, his artistic expression goes beyond a single label. He seamlessly blends soulful vocals with infectious melodies, creating music that resonates with a wide range of listeners.
Rather than getting caught up in genre definitions, Omah Lay prefers to let his music speak for itself. “It’s art,” he explained. “That’s what I make and I just leave the world to enjoy how they want to enjoy it.”
By embracing vulnerability and authenticity, Omah Lay has carved his own unique space in the Afrobeat scene. His music serves as a mirror for many, reflecting the complexities of human emotions and offering solace through shared experiences.
