Excitement reigns in Nigeria as the Super Eagles secure their place in the Round of 16 at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and despite missing the action due to injury, Wilfred Ndidi couldn’t be happier for his team.
While Alhassan Yusuf stepped in admirably to fill the midfield void left by Ndidi’s unfortunate injury sustained playing for Leicester City, the Leicester talisman’s heart remains firmly with his national squad.
“It was really bad for me not to be there,” Ndidi shared in a recent interview, “but I’m so happy for the team because even from last year, this is what we have been planning for – going for the AFCON.”
His unwavering support extends beyond words as he urges his teammates to aim for the ultimate prize, “Just try as much as possible to get to the final. We planned to win games which gets you to the next stage.”
The next stage pits the Super Eagles against their longtime rivals, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, in a highly anticipated clash at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, this Saturday.
Undoubtedly, the atmosphere will be electric, and even though he won’t be on the pitch, Ndidi will be cheering his team on every step of the way. “I believe in the guys,” he declared, “They have the talent and the determination to go all the way.”
So, Super Eagles fans, rejoice! With the spirit of a true leader like Ndidi guiding them from afar and the unwavering support of the entire nation, the road to AFCON glory looks brighter than ever. Let’s get behind the team and bring home the trophy!
