PDP Loses Another Rep Member to AP

Written by on February 11, 2025

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered another setback as one of its members in the House of Representatives, Hon. Taiwo Michael Akintola, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akintola, who represents the Yewa North/Yewa South federal constituency of Ogun State, announced his defection in a letter read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The lawmaker cited the internal crisis and divisions within the PDP as the reason for his defection. He also expressed his desire to work with the APC-led government to bring about positive change to his constituents.

Akintola’s defection is the latest in a series of defections that have hit the PDP in recent times. The party has been grappling with internal conflicts and power struggles, leading to the loss of several key members to the APC.

The APC has welcomed Akintola’s defection, with the party’s leadership hailing him as a “valuable addition” to the party. The APC has also expressed confidence that Akintola’s defection will strengthen the party’s hold on Ogun State.

The PDP, on the other hand, has expressed disappointment over Akintola’s defection, describing it as a “betrayal” of the party’s trust. The party has also accused the APC of “poaching” its members through “undemocratic” means.

The development has sparked reactions from politicians and analysts, with some describing it as a “big blow” to the PDP’s chances in the upcoming elections. Others have argued that the defection is a “normal” part of politics and that the PDP should focus on rebuilding and strengthening its base.
