In a decisive move to eradicate street trading, the Lagos State Government has launched a crackdown, dislodging and arresting street traders operating along major roads, including the Oshodi-Agege Motor Road, Ikeja GRA, and the Old Secretariat area.
Acting on the directives of Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, a joint operation involving the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) unit was carried out to enforce the state’s environmental laws.
Gaji Omobolaji, Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, issued a stern warning, stating that any apprehended street traders would face prosecution in designated Mobile Courts. Additionally, their wares, displayed and hawked on major roads, will be confiscated.
