POLICE WARN AGAINST PROTEST OVER KANO GOVERNOR’S SACKING

In response to the Court of Appeal’s decision upholding the sacking of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, the Kano State Police Command has issued a strong warning against any form of protest or demonstration.
Police spokesperson SP Abdullah Kiyawa stated in a press release that security agencies have received credible intelligence indicating plans by certain individuals to stage protests in response to the court’s verdict.
Prior to the court’s decision, the leaderships of both the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were summoned by the state police command for a peace accord, which was signed on Thursday, November 16, 2023.
The primary objective of the peace accord was to preserve harmony and ensure that the state’s political environment remained peaceful, regardless of the court’s decision.
The police command has emphasized that any attempt to disrupt public peace or incite violence will be swiftly met with the full force of the law. They have urged all residents of Kano State to maintain calm and refrain from engaging in any unlawful activities.
The police command has also called on political leaders and their supporters to demonstrate maturity and respect for the rule of law. They emphasized that any grievances should be addressed through authorized channels, not through violence or protest.
The Kano State Police Command is committed to upholding law and order in the state and will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
