Lagos State Disburses ₦1.6 Billion to Support Vulnerable Residents

Written by on June 3, 2025

In a bid to alleviate poverty and support small-scale entrepreneurs, the Lagos State Government has begun disbursing ₦1.6 billion to vulnerable residents, including petty traders and indigent citizens. The initiative is part of the state’s broader commitment to economic inclusion and grassroots empowerment.

250 Beneficiaries Receive Cheques in First Phase

At a cheque presentation ceremony held on Monday, 250 Lagosians received financial support ranging from ₦250,000 to ₦500,000, with some cases reaching up to ₦1.5 million. The disbursement follows a review of applicants’ requests and financial needs as submitted in their application letters.

Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative, and Civic Engagement, emphasized that:

Beneficiaries were selected without political influence or favoritism.

The goal is to “put smiles on the faces of vulnerable households” and strengthen their businesses.

Every Lagos resident is eligible to apply and benefit, regardless of connections or affiliations.

Transparency and Accountability

Dr. Afolabi reassured the public that the process was transparent and strictly need-based. He also announced that another batch of beneficiaries will receive funds two to three weeks after the Sallah festival.

Grateful Voices from the Community

Many recipients expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government, promising to use the funds responsibly to expand their businesses and support their families.

This initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision to empower the underserved, create jobs, and foster a more inclusive economy in Lagos.
