Written by on July 9, 2025

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a $32.8 billion initiative, dubbed Mission 300, to provide electricity to 300 million unserved Africans. Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, announced that $15.5 billion of the investment is expected from the private sector. The plan aims to transition the sector to a cost-reflective tariff system while introducing targeted subsidies to protect vulnerable citizens.

*Key Objectives:*

– *Address Market Liquidity Issues*: Resolving the N4 trillion debt owed to power generation companies
– *Expand Transmission Infrastructure*: Upgrading transmission capacity to deliver more power and ensure grid stability
– *Increase Renewable Energy Capacity*: Focusing on rural electrification and national energy transition drive
– *Improve Distribution Segment*: Implementing strategic programs like the Presidential Metering Initiative and Distribution Sector Recovery Programme

The Mission 300 Compact seeks to deliver electricity to homes, schools, hospitals, and industries, driving Nigeria’s economic growth. The government has called on development partners, the private sector, and civil society groups to support the initiative.
