Nigeria’s New Satellites to Track Criminals, Boost Military Comms

Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) says its upcoming NigComSat-2A and 2B satellites will help track criminals and provide secure communications for troops in remote areas.
Managing Director Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen told News outlets the satellites will support surveillance and digital mapping where ground infrastructure is weak or easily compromised.
She noted that forces operating in places such as the Sambisa Forest often struggle to stay in contact with command or risk having their channels intercepted.
The Federal Executive Council approved the satellites in August 2026. NigComSat-2A is scheduled for launch in 2028 and 2B in 2029, after earlier plans from 2021–2023 were delayed.
