Union leaders, represented by Ayo Akinwole, chairman of the University of Ibadan chapter, argue that this initiative risks further exacerbating the existing funding challenges faced by current universities. Ayo Akinwole, ASUU chair at the University of Ibadan, criticized the initiative as a blatant disregard for the current funding crisis crippling existing universities. He further argued that this decision stems from a misguided perception of higher education as an expendable commodity. ASUU urges the National Assembly to prioritize adequately funding current institutions before embarking on such an unsustainable expansion.
