LAGOS CRACKS DOWN ON REAL ESTATE FRAUD: LASRERA & EFCC JOIN FORCES

Written by on January 12, 2024

In a significant move to curb rampant real estate fraud, the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have joined forces. This groundbreaking collaboration was announced after a courtesy visit by Lagos State Housing Special Adviser Barakat Odunuga-Bakare and her team to the EFCC Lagos Zonal Command.

The partnership aims to tackle fraudulent practices like impersonation, property flipping, and document forgery that plague the Lagos real estate sector. LASRERA and the EFCC will work closely to investigate and prosecute individuals and organizations involved in such scams.

“This collaboration is a vital step towards a cleaner and more transparent real estate market in Lagos,” said Ms. Odunuga-Bakare. “By combining our expertise and resources, we can effectively combat fraud and protect both investors and homeowners.”

Assistant Commander Michael T. Wetkas, Zonal Commander of the EFCC Lagos Command, welcomed the partnership, calling it a “positive development” that will strengthen the fight against corruption in real estate transactions.

“This collaboration will not only deter criminal activity but also boost investor confidence in the Lagos market,” Wetkas stressed. “Working together, we can create a more secure and trustworthy environment for legitimate businesses and individuals to thrive.”

The LASRERA-EFCC partnership marks a significant step towards fostering a safer and more transparent real estate market in Lagos. This joint effort aims to restore trust and pave the way for sustainable growth in the sector.
