LIBERIA DEFENCE MINISTER RESIGNS 10 DAYS AFTER APPOINTMENT

Liberia’s newly appointed Defence Minister, Mr. Prince C. Johnson, has stepped down after just 10 days in office. This dramatic development marks the first political crisis for President Joseph Boakai since his inauguration in January.
Soldiers’ wives staged protests across the country, citing grievances like low salaries, poor benefits, and corruption within the armed forces. These protests reportedly played a key role in Johnson’s decision to resign, as stated in his letter to the President.
President Boakai swiftly moved to fill the vacancy by appointing General Geraldine Janet George, a seasoned military leader, as the provisional replacement.
