Lagos Faults Regulators Over Unmetered Power Consumers

Lagos State has blamed electricity regulators for failing to meter all consumers, despite existing laws requiring it.

Energy Commissioner Biodun Ogunleye said the state has provided the necessary policies and legal framework, placing the responsibility for enforcement on federal and state regulators.
He urged residents to reject energy theft, obtain meters, and manage consumption while supporting operators’ financial viability.
The government is also encouraging private firms to supply solar power in areas with grid shortfalls and pushing for expanded transmission capacity to reach 3–4 gigawatts in Lagos.
